WHEELER MEMORIAL LIBRARY CELEBRATES POETRY EXPLOSION!

The Wheeler Memorial Library will be celebrating National Poetry Month with an explosion of poetry featuring the Mahar Regional High School Poetry Out Loud National Recitation contestants (advised by Master Teacher, John Speek), and six noted poets interpreting the works of the 2015 Mass Poetry Common Threads poems. The event is free and open to the public and will blast off at 6:30 pm in the community room of the library on Thursday, April 16.

The gathering will be hosted by Candace Curran, the Wheeler Library's own explosive
Poet's Seat Laureate and a judge of the 2014 Massachusetts Book Awards in Poetry, and will immediately ignite with dazzling performances by the six fiery participants of the Poetry Out Loud Contest. These remarkable students will recite from memory the poems they read during that tense competition.

The theme sparking the second half of the occasion will be “Love and What Calls You to the Things of this World”. Special Guest, Amy Dryansky, winner of the 2014 MASS Book Awards in Poetry will be headlining the event. Joining Amy in celebrating the poems of the 2015 Common Threads poets, will be Dina Stander, ordained certified celebrant and poet from Shutesbury; Mara Bright, author of the memoir, The Constant Heart; Wendell’s own poet extraordinaire, Paul Richmond; Wheeler's dynamic Children’s Librarian, Mia Cabana; and the aforementioned Ms. Curran. Each poet will recite one of their own works that resonates with the theme.

The celebration is supported by the Friends of the Orange Public Libraries. Refreshments will be served. The Wheeler Memorial Library is at 49 East Main Street in Orange. For more information call 978-544-2495 x100 or email Candace Curran at candacecurran@orangelib.org
