The “Garden of Renewal” is a collaboration between Seeds of Solidarity Education Center and the Orange Public Libraries that celebrates the beauty of gardens and books in our communities and will provide a place for rest, contemplation and fresh food for library patrons. The workshop will take place on Saturday June 2, 2012 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. This free event is open to anyone interested in helping to create gardens while learning productive gardening practices, and will be led by Seeds of Solidarity staff. Participants will gain knowledge and experience with raised beds, soil fertility, and other tips for abundant gardens. There will be ground-breaking poetry and garden music presented as well as light refreshments.
Project support is provided through Seeds of Solidarity’s Grow Food Everywhere for Health and Justice project, funded through the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office Health Care Grant Program. Garden lumber is being donated by Heyes Forest Products. The two raised garden beds will be filled with rich soil from Clearview Compost, and seedlings grown by local youth in the Seeds of Solidarity's SOL (Seeds of Leadership) Garden Program. No pre-registration is necessary and children are welcome to attend with their parents. Please contact Seeds of Solidarity at 978-544-9023 or at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
The Library greatly appreciates the generosity of Deborah Habib and Ricky Baruc for presenting this program and their efforts to create a “Garden of Renewal” for the Library and its patrons.
