Hiking the Himalayas - Details

Photo: A hike through the Himalayas not only awakens your physical sense of adventure but also connects you to a spiritual world unlike any other.

The Moore-Leland Library in North Orange will host an exciting free program for all ages this coming Wednesday at 7:00pm.  Local world travelers Polly Bixby and Karen Grzesik will present a fascinating music and picture show of their recent AMC hiking trip to Nepal and the Himalayas.

The presentation is an amazing representation of life in the Himalayan Mountains, the villages, the country side, and the people and their way of life. The hike takes you on ancient paths dating back to the 5th century as they wind their way up into the Annapurna Sanctuary, the base camp of Annapurna and beyond to an elevation of 14000 feet. The entire massif (the main mass of the mountain) and surrounding area are protected within the 3,000 square mile Annapurna Conservation Area, the first and largest conservation area in Nepal. The Annapurna Conservation Area is home to several world-class treks, including the Annapurna Circuit.

This program will allow you to travel to the heights of the planet!  Thanks to Polly and Karen for sharing their adventure, and to the Friends of the Orange Public Libraries for sponsoring this event. Please call 978-544-2495 for more info. No preregistration necessary.
