On Thursday, June 24th, at 6:30 p.m. next to the Wheeler Memorial Library, Medicine Mammals will perform stories, songs and dances from their Native American traditions. This program is the kick-off event for Orange’s “Go Green at Your Library” summer reading program. Medicine Mammals will be arriving early at the library along with some of their rescued animals. Starting at 4:30, Peter White Fox and Loril MoonDream will set up their tee-pee and invite participants inside. Also, on a drop-in basis those who come from 4:30-5:30 will have the opportunity to create their own Native American craft and visit with the animals. Then from 6:30 to 7:30pm the group will put on an exciting performance featuring animal stories, songs, and hoop dances.
Medicine Mammals is a non-profit wildlife rehabilitation organization in Wendell, MA. The group was founded by Loril, a White Mountain Apache whose goal is to teach people to live in harmony with wild animals. The organization is dedicated to the Native American philosophy that all life is sacred. Following this philosophy, Loril and Peter raise orphaned and injured wildlife for hoped-for release back into nature. They are often helped by generous veterinarians who donate their time and medicine. And from their Native American heritage and philosophies, Medicine Mammals create unique programs in order to continue their work with wildlife. All the proceeds from their programs go to pay for the provisions needed to care for their rescued animals.
