Yorick’s marionette show and puppet workshop

“Counting out the Trees”

After last spring’s wonderfully received introduction to Yorick’s Marionettes, the Orange Libraries are bringing them back from Rhode Island. This performance is a story inspired by real events that also brings together everyone’s favorite fairy tale character, including Pinocchio, Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood and a host of others. Trees are disappearing in the Magic land of Fairy Tales. Who is the culprit? Fairy Queen calls an emergency meeting….To find out what happens come watch this wonderful original tale at the Orange Town Hall on Saturday February 24 at 2:30pm. No one of any age will be able to resist joining in the fun but children less than 10 need to bring an adult along with them. And no admission will be charged for this special school vacation week event.

If you would like to make your own special Leaf Puppet, there will be a workshop to do so with the award winning puppeteers. The workshop is limited to the lucky 25 people who register first by calling the Wheeler Memorial Library’s Children’s Room (978-55-2495, ext.103). Counting out the Trees, puppet show and workshop are free events because of generous grants from the Friends of the Orange Libraries, the Athol Orange Rotary Club, the New England Foundation for the Arts, and the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts. Many people have admired and supported Dusan Petran and Aniece Novak’s puppetry. For 25 years they have toured through
Europe and the United States with their beautifully made wooden marionettes. You can learn more about them here.
