Priscilla Hume Honored at State House

During ceremonies at the State House, Priscilla Hume was awarded an Honorable Mention in the Letters About Literature Contest which is sponsored nationally by the Library of Congress. Within Massachusetts, Priscilla is one of approximately 50 participants out of 3,000 competitors who were given awards for the letters they wrote to authors whose work has made a significant difference in their lives. She became aware of the contest while she was browsing for books at the Wheeler Memorial Library. She chose to write to Kurt Vonnegut.

Priscilla was awarded commendations by the Massachusetts House of Representatives, and the Massachusetts Senate. She is pictured above with Representative Chris Donelan. The Massachusetts Center for the Book, and the Calderwood Writing Initiative at the Boston Athenaeum praised Priscilla for making “an important addition to a national conversation about books and reading.” Priscilla’s certificates are on display in the Children’s Room of the Wheeler Memorial Library in Orange.
